Waste collected throughout the Cayman Islands is processed and disposed of at the DEH landfills. A landfill is located on each island.

Landfill Operations

Grand Cayman

The George Town landfill is located in Industrial Park, adjacent to the Esterly Tibbetts Highway (or otherwise known as the Harquail Bypass), with access via Seymour Drive, off North Sound Road. The George Town (GT) landfill does not have a liner; thus, it is not classified in accordance with international standards. But the DEH follows international standards of operations which includes:

  • Compacting and covering of municipal waste.
  • Separating and recycling waste.
  • Using an alternative cover material.

George Town Landfill Hours

  • 7 am to 6:30 pm Monday to Saturday
  • A 24- hour drop-off area is located at the entrance of the George Town Landfill. The area is accessible to the public daily for the disposal of small quantities of garbage, bulky items, metals, appliances, electronics and household hazardous waste (cooking oils, grease, paint, solvents, bleach, cleaning supplies, etc.).

Cayman Brac

The Cayman Brac Landfill is located on the south side of the island, opposite to the public beach. It follows similar waste management practises and procedures as the George Town Landfill.

  • Compacting and covering of municipal waste.
  • Separating and recycling waste.
  • Using an alternative cover.

Cayman Brac Landfill Hours

  • 7 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday
  • 7 am to 3 pm Saturday

Little Cayman

The Little Cayman Landfill is located on the south side of the island, next to the Power & Light Plant.  Municipal waste is burned in a special air curtain burner. Metals and hazardous waste are separated and shipped to Grand Cayman for further processing.

Little Cayman Landfill Hours

  • 7 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday
  • 7 am to 3 pm Saturday
