Residential garbage pickup is behind schedule because of mechanical problems with the trucks, said Department of Environmental Health (DEH) officials.

Collection from the College Close, Newlands, area to Northward will be completed today (Friday, 15 August) with collections continuing in West Bay. There will be limited garbage pickup in the George Town area today; however DEH crews will work over the weekend to complete all collections.

"We are asking for the public's patience. The staff will be working overtime to resolve the situation as quickly as possible," said DEH Director Roydell Carter. "We expect that collections will be back on schedule within a few days, providing no more problems arise with the vehicles."

He noted that a new garbage truck is to arrive in October, with two more coming in November. "These purchases will help us to keep the collection schedule," Mr Carter said.
