All Food Handlers Must Certify
Published 7th October 2008, 2:32pm
All persons planning to serve food or manage food stalls during this year's Pirates Week festivities must have current food handlers' certifications from the Department of Environmental Health (DEH).
DEH officials say that two basic food safety courses, exclusively for Pirates Week food handlers, are scheduled for Wednesday, October 15 and October 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The courses will be held in the DEH Conference Room at the CI Environmental Centre located at 580 North Sound Rd, past CUC Headquarters on North Sound Rd.
All food handlers needing certification before the festivities are required to register; the fee of $15 per person covers materials.
By the end of the course, food handlers will have gained sufficient knowledge to prevent food-borne illness and the spread of disease. Certification lasts for three years and anyone wanting to continue as a food handler must renew following expiration.
For more information and to register, call the DEH at 949-6696 or 244-4155.
